The Red-Flag Checklist
Spot the pattern before you invest.
This checklist is about behaviors, not labels. It does not diagnose anyone, and it is not for naming people. One item alone means little. A repeating pattern is what matters.
Early intensity
- Moves very fast: big feelings, big future talk, very early.
- Constant contact that suddenly drops off.
- Makes you feel uniquely understood before they really know you.
Inconsistency
- Warm one week, distant the next, with no explanation.
- Plans get vague or cancelled once you feel secure.
- Words and actions rarely line up.
Repair and accountability
- You start almost every repair after a conflict.
- Questions about the relationship get met with silence or exits.
- Apologies, if any, come only when you pull away.
Asymmetry
- They can leave at any time. You feel you never can.
- You track their moods closely. They rarely ask about yours.
- Your needs are called "too much."
The return
- Reappears after a silence as if nothing happened.
- Returns when you have started moving on.
- Gives just enough to restart hope, then withdraws again.
If several of these feel familiar
That makes sense, and you are not alone. Slow down. Let consistency over time earn your trust. Talk it through with people you trust or a licensed professional. You deserve reciprocity.
